Hello, my name is Foxy (bet you can’t tell why I am called that!), formerly known as Millie. I am here to tell you my story. I don’t know when I was born, I am told I am about 2 – 3 years old now, and that sounds about right. I was probably born on the streets of Romania. I can’t recall my mummy or any siblings, I don’t know if they are still out there on the streets, or in a loving home like I am right now, or (the unthinkable, but highly probable), long gone. I hope they have nice homes, they deserve that just as much as I do. What I do know is, that at some point I had to start fending for myself. I had to fight for my life, every meal, every drink of water, every bit of shade and shelter, every maneuver out of cruel hands. And I did fight. I survived that long, although I never really lived. Living is more than just fighting, isn’t it? One day I was captured and put into a public shelter, a kill shelter is what they call it. I was so frightened; I never knew what each day would bring. Some dogs were friendly, others were not. Some people were friendly, others were not. We all shared a common theme though, we were unwanted, we were abandoned, we were barely surviving in appalling conditions, and we were unloved. But even worse, time was running out! They don’t keep unwanted strays like me in the shelter for long. The turn-around is tight and without someone to save you, they put a hole through your ear, tag you and your countdown begins. Before you know it, your time is up, and you are destroyed. I’m sorry, I could say put to sleep, that’s the nice way of putting it, isn’t it? But there is nothing nice about life in the kill shelter.
BUT… this is where Helping Dogs and Cats UK Rescue came in. They work tirelessly to help save animals like me. Animals that nobody else cares about or can no longer keep. I could so easily have been just another number, another animal no longer in this world. But today, because of them, and because of the family who took a chance and adopted me, I am living my best life. I am thriving and I am loved! It hasn’t been easy, this has all been new to me, even my old life at first seemed preferable, because it was all I knew. But with love, and patience, tons and tons of quiet, calm, respectful patience (plus two other doggy pack members to help me find my paws in a whole new, and at first frightening world), I can say that I am almost there. They love me, have accepted me and would never let me go, and that’s exactly how I feel about them.
So, my message would be.. If you love animals, if you are passionate about making a difference, then do whatever you can to help support them, no matter how big, no matter how small. Don’t let it be too late. We all deserve a second chance. Oh, and this is what my new pack say about me (they make me blush).. We are so glad we adopted our girl. We were an incomplete jigsaw puzzle without her, and she was the missing piece. Has it all been plain sailing? No, of course not! But boy do we adore her. She’s the cutest, funniest, friendliest, most loving and rewarding little low rider (as we call her due to her little stumpy legs) we could wish for. Life was good before, but life is way better now! Our Foxy-ferret, our thunder paws. #Helping Dogs and Cats UK Rescue – You guys are amazing, and the backup has been second to none! We can never thank you enough!

Welcome to Helping Dogs and Cats Rescue.
We are a non-profit rescue based in Basingstoke and operate in #Hampshire, #Kent, #Berkshire and #Surrey. Our journey began in 2018 when our Founder Kirsty Wrightson, established the rescue after losing her beloved dog, Millie.
We rescue dog, cats, and other small animals in need of help. Our work includes rehoming and rehabilitation, veterinary care, microchipping, spaying, and neutering. All of the animals that come into our care first go into foster homes for assessment.
With the cost-of-living crisis the rescue has seen an influx of cats and dogs needing to be rehomed. The rescue has set up a food bank for pets supporting individuals and families who maybe struggling to cover the cost of looking after their pets.
We are always desperate for more foster carers and welcome applications from cat and dog loving people within Basingstoke and surrounding areas. https://helpingdogsandcatsuk.org/foster
Our small team is staffed by volunteers, who are true animal lovers and passionate about animal welfare. We receive no government funding and depend entirely on the generosity of our supporters. Every penny we receive goes directly to helping dogs and cats. https://helpingdogsandcatsuk.org/donate
If you are in need of our help, would like to make a donation or are interested in fostering or volunteering with us, you can contact us 01256 593373, via email at enquiries@helpingdogsandcatsuk.org or view our website https://helpingdogsandcatsuk.org/
