REMEMBERING DARLING DIESEL – written by his human Sergey.

‘Here is a picture of Diesel and my grandson Maddox contemplating on the purpose of life!’

Today HAPPY DOGGY NEWS is remembering with love the gorgeous boy DIESEL.

His loving human Sergey has written about his handsome DIESEL and we share with love and woofs!

Our dog Diesel has been in doggie heaven for 5 years now and I sure miss him. But first things first. One day my daughter’s friend brought a red coat, short haired large dog and according to her friend the dog was a mix between a German shepherd and a pitbull. He couldn’t keep the dog because he already had two living in a small apartment. This dog was about 10 months old and weighed about 60 pounds. My daughter begged us to keep him as if her life depended on it. She promised to feed and walk the dog, wash him and the whole nine yards. When I met this dog, he was subdued and kept whimpering and his whimpering drove me nuts. I said no way we’ll keep him, went to work, came back and the dog was still at home except now my wife joined the chorus. My daughter told me his story, that the dog was living on the dog breeding/fighting farm and that he was the smallest of the litter. His fate was to be fed, to get some meat on him and when he turned about 12 months, he was to become a practice target for the bigger dogs to tear him to pieces before the big dogs go into the real fights themselves. To skip a few details but my daughter’s friend basically stole him from the ranch and that’s how he ended up at our house.

For the next two days his whimpering drove me crazy and I told him in a stern voice that if he keeps it up I am going to throw him out. Immediately he stopped. I’d like to think it was because I am such a great dog handler/trainer. LOL.
Next, we took him for a walk on the trail along the bayou near our house. About 3 miles hike. We let him loose and had to wait on him for about an hour until he ran out of energy before we could get him back on the leash. The next day I took him for a walk alone on the same route, let him off the leash and he ran off. I waited for about 45 min to an hour in a 90F (32C) heat but he never came back. I called my wife, told her the news, asked her to tell our daughter the bad news and started walking home. Halfway to the house my wife called me back and said that Diesel found his way home. That’s when I realized that he was a pretty smart dog because he found his way home from about 3 miles away after only a single walk.

To make a long story short, he became my dog. My daughter forgot her promises to take care of him within a week. The dog was loyal, friendly and protective. One night when I was out of town my wife took him for a walk after dark. A man was coming straight at her so she crossed the road onto the other side and so did he. My wife says she was getting bad vibes from this dude, his demeanor was threatening, he was going straight for her, and when he was about 10–15 feet away that’s when the Diesel went crazy, started growling, his fur stood up and the dog wanted to attack him. My wife held the leash but said that she thinks she heard the man swear *****, never mind” before he took off. Another time the dog wouldn’t let some teenagers approach her when it looked a bit dicey.

Diesel lived for just over 10 years with us until he got sick and we had to put him to sleep. I took him to the vet and I was by his side when he took his last breath and tears were rolling down then and now. And Diesel went with me, trusting me 100% but I left the vet’s clinic alone and it was one of the saddest days in my life. Mark Twain once said “the more I learn about people, the more I like my dog” and our Diesel was living proof of this saying.

Miss you Diesel.
Thanks for reading and treat all animals like you want to be treated yourself.
Cheers.
