A TRIBUTE TO RESCUE BOY GINO!

Today we are REMEMBERING with love in our hearts the fabulous RESCUE BOY GINO!

This is a CELEBRATION OF HIS LIFE!

From the moment GINO was rescued by Jane, his life became a life of unconditional love and stimulation!

Jane answered our questions beautifully and they are published just as she wrote!

HAPPY DOGGY NEWS – How did you hear about Gino needing a forever home?

JANE – We were actually looking for a German Shepherd and came across one on Greek Animal Rescue. He was in a foster home in Greece and Gino was in the same foster home after being rescued from dreadful conditions and the two had bonded but in those two weeks he hadn’t bonded with the foster parents because he was so nervous. Because he had bonded so well and they didn’t want to traumatise him again they asked if we could possibly take him as well and sent a picture of him. As soon as we saw the picture we fell in love with the beautiful boy and said yes

HAPPY DOGGY NEWS – Did he manage to settle with you fairly easily or from his previous trauma did it take a while?

JANE – Because he was coming from Greece and transportation has to be arranged he was with the foster parents for another month which helped him socialise with humans more by the time he arrived with us. He was still very nervous when he arrived but because he had Aris with him I don’t think he was as bad as he would’ve been if he had come over alone. The main problem was taking him for a walk as he was scared of virtually everything he passed like wheelie bins or if a bus went past so it did take a few weeks for him to build confidence and really enjoy a walk although again Aris did help the situation!

GORGEOUS ARIS!

HAPPY DOGGY NEWS – Did you fall in love with him immediately or did it take you a while to bond?

JANE – It was love at first sight from the photo and you just couldn’t help but love him when he arrived because he was so nervous so you just had to love and care for him so he could settle.

HAPPY DOGGY NEWS – What did Gino love to do?

JANE – Eat. Because of his bad start in life, he was very food orientated and sadly he never seemed to get out of not knowing where his next meal was coming from so food was his real love in life. He also loved to catch small titbits if you threw them for him

HAPPY DOGGY NEWS – Did he have any favourite toys, sleeping places or any other favourites?

JANE – No favourite toys. Again unfortunately because of his start in life he never understood the concept of toys. We tried but it just never interested him. If you threw a toy at him he would never try and catch or chase it even though as I said he was excellent at catching things if it was food. When he was younger his favourite place to sleep at night was with us in the bedroom until he got too old to climb the stairs which was heartbreaking having to leave him downstairs because he was just too big to carry up the stairs. His other favourite place to sleep if the weather was good was in the garden he loved sleeping on the lawn and for some reason butterflies used to love landing on him.
His favourite thing was our cat Merlín they slept together all the time and Merlín used to wash his face. When Merlín went over the rainbow bridge we buried him in the garden and the next day Gino laid next to where he was buried even though he never saw us put him there and most times when he slept in the garden he would lie next to the grave!

GINO’S FAVOURITE POSITION ON HIS BACK! OH GINO SUCH A FABULOUS, FUNNY BOY!

HAPPY DOGGY NEWS – Did Gino have any quirky behaviours?

JANE – Not so much quirky behaviours but boy could he snore

HAPPY DOGGY NEWS – Is there anything you can think of that Gino did that still makes you laugh when you think about it?

JANE – His snoring and also when he did little barks when he was dreaming. Also, the way his 2 front feet would march up and down when you were preparing his food

HAPPY DOGGY NEWS – Did he get along with other people, dogs, and children?

JANE – Yes he loved everyone he didn’t have a bad bone in his body. This is him with our other two little dogs and he also lived with lots of other cats

OH GINO! YOU HAD THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HEART!

HAPPY DOGGY NEWS – Could you put into a sentence or two, how he changed your life for the more wonderful?

JANE – Gino was just the sweetest soul you could wish for and to witness how he changed from a nervous wreck into such a beautiful unconditional loving boy will always remain with me. Watching him win Best Rescue Dog after only being with us for a few months will always be one of my proudest moments for him. He was and will always be the Gene Genie who lived on his back ❤️
