We had the pleasure of meeting Laura a while back. She has the most wonderful Assistance Dog called Ted! We loved writing a little story about TED, it’s a story which we will be updating with TED’S LIFE EVENTS! Don’t miss it! – you can find his story here…… Following the life of TED ASSISTANCE DOG! – HAPPY DOGGY NEWS
Now, the wonderful TED also has a brother called PATCH. This gorgeous boy is another inspirational doggy which we are so happy to be introducing!
PATCH was the puppy of two merle parents – Laura has PATCH’S Mum and she managed to find another Merle and became pregnant! There is a 25% chance that the puppies will be a double merle which typically results in blindness and deafness depending on the severity of the dilution. PATCH’s eyes didn’t open as a puppy as they should and the vet diagnosed PATCH as Blind, being only able to see a slight shadow!
PATCH was the puppy out of the litter who needed extra love and care and so Laura decided she would be the one to give this beautiful boy the life he required! – And wow what a great life she has given him!
PATCH also has a heart murmur and seizures from his epilepsy!
So…….. what type of life does PATCH lead?
Well, this amazing boy not only enjoys life to the full, he partakes in DOG SHOWS winning himself some fabulous awards!
Take a look at how proud and happy PATCH is at his DOGGY SHOWS! We are especially in love with the photos with Laura!
Living with his real Mum Leah also provides the protection PATCH needs. The two of them have a bond which goes further than even some of the closest bonds dogs make with each other. She is by his side quite a lot, making sure he feels confident with his everyday activities! He follows Leah around and she in turn loves him as his devoting Mum!
Being blind, having one sense not working as should be, it is quite common for another sense to become more sensitive. This is exactly what has happened to PATCH! He delights in his walks and stops to smell everything! He find stimulation in all the smells he comes across (not just wee wee smells of other doggies, like our own Chihuahua JET enjoys!)
Being blind from a puppy, PATCH really knows no different way of living. For this reason, he is able to understand how to navigate the world and loves his visits to the beach! Running along the sand and enjoying the sea like any other sighted dog would!
OH MY GOODNESS! – LOOK AT YOU GO PATCH! THESE ARE SUCH STUNNING PHOTOS!
PATCH IS HERE WITH HIS BEAUTIFUL MUM LEAH!
Smell and Sound are so important to PATCH! His favourite toys are those that squeak and he also loves scented toys! It’s amazing, if you actually close your eyes and smell maybe some flowers, your experience is enhanced and PATCH naturally has this wonderful heightened pleasure!
When speaking to the lovely Laura she told us ‘PATCH will curl up on the sofa next to me and at night he goes and sleeps in my bed with me! – With patch being blind he is really anxious but when he knows people he loves unconditionally. Patch loves to lean against you as it is comfortable for him. If you didn’t know patch was blind you would just think he is a normal dog enjoying life with our other 2 pets!’ PATCH you are such a lucky boy!
PATCH you are one of our INSPIRATIONAL DOGGIES who are here on this Earth to teach us!
PATCH is presently having to frequent the vets to try and avoid another eye amputation and we wish him with all our hearts the best of love and happiness and health!
KEEP SHOWING THE WORLD HOW WONDERFUL IT CAN BE PATCH!
