This is to celebrate PHEENA’S life but also to share a story which we were not expecting!
Lesley is the lady who had the privilage of loving PHEENA and this is how the story begun!
Lesley was living in Cyprus and came across a street dog who was due to give birth. With nowhere to really take a pregnant street dog, she had no hesitation in taking this doggy into her own home! There Mum gave birth to a litter of nine puppies! – all born in Lesley’s bedroom!
Sadly, only two of the puppies survived – but happily Lesley adopted these two and called them PHEENA and BEN. These two were survivors and against the odds went on to live wonderful healthy lives!
Lesley said that when PHEENA and BEN were born, it was instant love! Unfortunately Mum didn’t produce hardly any milk so the two puppy’s would need to be BOTTLE FED every two hours for a total of two weeks! – This is exactly what Lesley did!
Mum was called NANA by Lesley and she too had now found her ‘forever home!’ We love that they were all kept together, Mum and her puppy’s – This warms our hearts! NANA lived with Lesley for a wonderful 11 years!
Lesley told us about the gorgeous BEN, who was on this Earth for just 4 years but we think they were such amazing quality years that it would equate to a long full life of some!
About BEN – ‘ Run! – he loved to run, was crap at recall (we have starting giggling, Bless you BEN!) He was a real wanderer. He was my world! He loved to deconstruct pine cones…. what a mess he used to make! He was a typical boy, full of fun – everything was a game, including going missing on a regular basis! – He was a handful on a lead but he was always home for supper!’ – Lesley
For most of us this would have been enough! Such a wonderful commitment to her new puppy’s which were totally unexpected in Lesley’s life!
But for Lesley, this was just the beginning!
This amazing lady created a dog shelter in Cyprus and continued to rescue dogs for 17 years! Rescuing several hundred doggy’s in this time! We are completely overwhelmed at the love she has given to so many!
So now we have a wonderful story about PHEENA but also a story about the life Lesley has devoted to saving so many dogs AND about NANA and BEN!
Lesley told us PHEENA had great presence! She was a dominant female but so lovely with it! PHEENA would walk through a room and other dogs would literally part to sides of the room, allowing her to walk through – apparently it was like watching the ‘parting of the red sea’! Oh my goodness, we are loving this! She just had respect from all other doggy’s!
Although almost REGAL (Lesley’s own words, not ours but we can see why, lol!) PHEENA was so very gentle, kind and nurturing with all the other doggy’s that Lesley rescued. SHE DIDN’T HAVE A BAD BONE IN HER BODY!
This beautiful girl loved life to the full! – she loved to sunbath (well deserved we think!). She adored her walks and adored FOX’S POO! (this is very popular with most of our dogs! – we are thinking PHEENA must have been a little difficult to clean up as she was a beautiful long white furry doggy, unlike our own Chihuahua who has short fur and black! – oh my goodness we are having a little giggle at this too!
PHEENA didn’t play with toys, this was something that just didn’t interest her in the slightest. She was far too interested in being on watch for all the doggy’s around her!
Often surrounded at any one time by 20 to 30 dogs, she would just sit there with her paws crossed! – Many canine behavioral specialists agree that crossed paws are a sign of happiness and that is something we totally believe! It would seem that PHEENA was a very content girl, being happy surrounded by the other Rescue Doggy’s – it is also believed to give a non threatening body posture – she was no doubt showing the other doggy’s that she was of no threat to them!
We want to send our love to the amazing Lesley and thank her for being there for so many doggy’s who needed to be rescued, loved and found their own ‘forever homes!’
Lesley told me during a wonderful Facetime chat that she no longer runs the charity and lives back in the U.K. However, she then went on to tell me that she has five rescue doggy’s and five rescue cats and has just adopted a puppy from Cyprus a few months ago!
You can never completely stop Lesley, it’s in your blood, in your soul and we are so very happy to have met you!
