DO DOGS DREAM? – casual chats with our Readers!

Scientists have researched DOG DREAMING and have come up with the conclusion that their electrical impulses in their brains become active just like human brains.
Your DOGGY will reach the REM stage of sleeping just like us! This is where we may see Rapid Eye Movement (flickering of the eyelids) accompanied with more irratic breathing! From this we would summise that they are dreaming at this point!
So, although we cannot know what our doggy’s are dreaming about as they are obviously unable to discuss with us, we do believe that some dreams are pleasant whilst others may be not so pleasant!
We totally adore the little noises our dogs make when at REM sleep stage, sometimes with the odd twitch or even a little bark, which can wake them from their sleep (this we find endearing!)

It is shown that little dogs dream more regularly than larger dogs! Our Chihuahua often has little dreams (or at least we believe he is dreaming) during nap times in the day! However, larger doggy’s usually only have dreams during the night!
We asked a vet whether we should wake our doggy’s if we think they are having a bad dream, usually accompanied by whines or similar! We learnt that we shouldn’t wake them, which is something we didn’t know because we actually wake our Chihuahua (JET) if we believe he is stressed when dreaming!
The dog food company PURINA advises ‘If you believe your dog is having a bad dream, it’s best not to disturb them—even though it may be tempting to wake them up and comfort them. It could take your pet a moment to realise that they are no longer asleep, and you don’t want to risk them lashing out as though still in the dream. Although it can feel distressing to watch your dog experience a bad dream, try to remember—it is just a dream!
