THE VOICE FOR THE FORGOTTON DOGS OF SAL, CAPE VERDE – GRACE’S STORY!

THIS is such an amazing story sent in from the wonderful doggy charity THE VOICE FOR THE FORGOTTON DOGS OF SAL, CAPE VERDE.

Debbie is the founder of this wonderful charity and she told us how it began.

The reason for the charity happened to be GRACE, she was a beach dog with no name at that time and homeless. Debbie had seen her wondering the beach and immediately felt love for her. However, the next time Debbie went to the beach she couldn’t find her. This particular dog was one she couldn’t stop thinking about even on return to the U.K.

When back in the U.K. Debbie liased with one of the holiday tour guides and they advised her that GRACE had been taken into the government kennels. These kennels are not nice, extremely basic – there she wouldn’t be treated for any health issues or given a bed or any love!

From the U.K. Debbie then started the process of adopting this sweet girl. Living in the U.K. and finding Grace in Sal, Cape Verde meant that paperwork and permission needed to be acquired and this can take some time. She liased with the city council to release GRACE via emails it took her 8 weeks to get her released and into a foster home.

In the meantime Debbie visited Grace and saw how sad she was, she didn’t make any eye contact, had no expression and was just staring into thin air. She was a broken girl! Debbie spent the whole week interacting with Grace, just sitting with her and talking to her.

At last in September 2019 she was ready to leave and start her journey to the U.K. Bless Grace, this wasn’t going to be a straightforward journey as you cannot fly direct from Sal, Cape Verde. Debbie first travelled to Holland via the ferry and drove to Dusseldorf. From there she flew to Sal, Cape Verde. It was a two day trip there and a two day trip back!

Grace was waiting for Debbie in foster care. When Debbie arrived, Grace immediately had hope in her eyes!

On arrival home, Grace still had a long emotional journey, she needed to learn how to be loved. A year and a half later she is the most caring , loving dog who loves nothing better than her daily hugs. She also has a furry sibling called Mitzy who she loves dearly.

Grace has had her life completely turned around and has had a lot of T.L.C. and time in the presence of people who love her. She is still being taught how to be around all other doggy’s as sometimes she becomes anxious in their presence. She is at the moment being walked in a harness and collar to train her.

Her pictures tell her story from loneliness and sadness to being part of a family and finding happiness. She never ceases to amaze Debbie, family and friends with her learning and love. She plays with enthsiasm like a puppy where she never had this opportunity before.

Debbie vowed to help the others still in the kennels and which is why and how she set up her wonderful charity – THE VOICE FOR THE FORGOTTON DOGS OF SAL, CAPE VERDE. The charity is run by three trustees and is a registered charity.

The charity is currently looking for a celebrity patron as a symbol to join their page, which is something many doggy charities have!

She thanks you for listening to her story and we send her our love and good wishes for the future, she really is an inspiration!

Love to you wonderful GRACE and all the other doggy’s who find themselves in the arms of this charity!
